Cave Painting

Cave Painting

After we talked about Nomads in history, and how. They lived in tents and caves, we decided to do some cave painting of our own. I showed the girls some samples online of what nomads would have painted and what that might have told us about their culture.

Then I showed them the cave I made for them! I hung some crumpled brown paper from our dining room table, and then I covered that with a blanket to make it a little darker and more cave like.

I gave them brown, red, and orange paint to represent the more natural colors they would have had access to, and then let them paint their own stories on the cave walls. At first they complained it was too dark, but I reminded them that caves would have been dark since they didn't have light or even fire!

They went on to paint animals, people, tracks, and hand prints all over their cave walls.

They also managed to paint some of the floor and of course some of their clothes too. Luckily I used washable paint on a hard floor!
