Kids love to learn about the world around them include other cultures. That also means learning about the amazing monuments around our world, and what they mean to each culture. It is easy to look at amazing pictures of these wonders and read great books about them, but a hands-on activity really makes the learning stick!
For my youngest (kindergarten at the time) I made these cute monument puzzles out of duplos. They were perfect for recognizing famous monuments and working fine motor skills.
Supplies for Duplo Monument Puzzles
How to Make Monument Puzzles
These are super simple little puzzles to make! First, print the printables below. Cut out each monument and choose which Duplos (or Legos if you want to make it harder) fit best.
Now assemble the blocks in the way you want them shaped, so you can adhere the pictures.
To add the pictures you can use a sticker maker with removable adhesive like I did or simply use double sided tape.
Once you have everything prepared, adhere the monument pictures to the blocks and use an exacto knife to cut between the blocks.
Using Your Monument Puzzles
If your child is already familiar with some of the monuments they can likely work the puzzles without any assistance, but if not, they will need a visual to help the first few times at least.
Having the models is helpful for young kids who don’t already recognize the monuments especially when Duplos can be put together in any way including silly ways or combining monuments.
If your child is on the younger side, given them a single puzzle at a time will be the easiest way to get them started. Once they get a feel for it you can give them a couple at a time. If your child is older, throw them all out there and see if they can decide what goes with what!
You can also extend the learning by reading about each monument or leaning more into the culture of the country by having your own
culture night.
