If you ask a homeschool parent what they do for PE most will either say the kids play outside or list the sports their kids are in. Nothing is wrong with either of those; in fact they are both great! Anything that gets kids moving is wonderful!
But what about rainy days or off seasons in sports? Or what if you don't have a sporty kid? What if they prefer creative things? Or maybe they prefer indoor activities? What if they want to dance?
Dance is a great form of exercise. It improves balance, posture, flexibility, and stamina all while helping burn off the excess energy kids so often have. It also improves spatial awareness and rhythm. It is also indoors and can be done in all seasons!
But dance classes can be hard to find especially if your child is interested in a particular style. They can also be pricey. But YouDance.com has solved both of those problems for families everywhere. Now dance can be a regular part of your homeschool.
Meet YouDance.com an Online Dance Class
Why Learn to Dance with YouDance.com?
- Done on your schedule
- No traveling needed
- Affordable
- Excellent instruction
- Variety of dance styles
As a homeschooling mom of four, I am busy! Not only with teaching four different grades, but with driving kids to lessons, co-op, and social activities. That doesn't stop my kids from wanting to take every class they find! Since the lessons are all online, YouDance.com makes dance one class that we can fit in wherever we have time. This is also great when you have multiple kids wanting to do different dance styles. They could even do them at the same time in separate rooms.
The other reason it seems I am constantly driving is the fact that we are in a rural community and a lot of activities aren't. Dance is one of those things that the closest town does not offer, so lessons would also mean an hour of driving round trip. With YouDance.com it doesn't matter if you have a local studio, and there is no driving required. YouDance.com is accessible in your home!
Of course there is another reason many homeschoolers don't pursue dance lessons, and that is the financial investment required. Dance lessons can be pricey, and many of our families are living on a single income. YouDance.com offers unlimited access to all videos for $25 a month or $180 a year! That means, the whole family can take dance lessons on their own schedule for less than half the price on one student at a studio.
There is also a free trial period added to all subscriptions.
I have to say, I was quite impressed with the instruction quality provided on YouDance.com as well. So many online exercise type videos don't provide you with enough information to perform the movements correctly. With YouDance.com, the instructors take the time to walk you through each step in the lessons including very specific foot movements that may be imperceptible to the beginner if not pointed out. Viewing on a large screen helps as well.
Of course with small children this detailed instruction also means you really need an adult watching along with them to help correct their movements. I think we as homeschool parents are used to stepping in to teach something we ourselves are not masters at, so this isn't too different. Plus as they strengthen their muscles and mature, they will learn to watch and correct themselves.
Older kids can use YouDance.com independently allowing you to free up some time for something else.
You can use YouDance.com as well for exercise or to fulfill a desire to learn how to dance.
Any way you look at it, YouDance.com is a great addition to your homeschool offering physical education when you want in your own home. Be sure to check it out and give the free trial a spin. You can also scroll down and enter to win a subscription.
